Chatham County is presently in the process of revising its Flood Mitigation Plan to maintain compliance under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This program allows Chatham County to participate in the Community Rating System (CRS) which allows residents to qualify for flood insurance at reduced rates. One of the goals of this update effort is to allow the general public, other local governments and outside agencies to review the plan and to attend development meetings to offer comments, suggestions and/or recommendations on the plan. This is a very important process for the County that will hopefully assist in addressing many of the stormwater/drainage and flood mitigation issues that we have within Chatham County. The update of this plan will also qualify the identified projects within it for possible Federal grant funding. Therefore, this is a great way of letting your voice be heard. We encourage you to get involved with the development of this plan.
The next Flood Mitigation Plan development meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM on the 4th floor of the Old Court House in the Engineering Department.
Please RSVP to Mr. Michael Blakely with Chatham County Engineering at mblakely@chathamcounty.org to let him know if you can participate in this important project.
